Congratulations to Jason Williams on capturing (and returning alive) a new club record Stingray of 57 lbs 1 oz caught from the shore.
It beats the previous club record which was a boat caught specimen of 51 lbs caught by Mark Tutton in 2005 which was returned alive after being weighed ashore.
Please see our news and notices page for updates and current issues.
We are the largest deep sea boat angling club on the Isle of Wight.
Our address is:-

Revalidated August 2023: We can confirm that we still have a small number of mud berths available to rent, for angling boats only. (Sorry but no yachts). As a result of increased demand, anyone thinking of applying should not delay. It is usually first come first served. We would welcome applications for one of our moorings (usable 12 months) which are only available for recreational angling boats not larger than 10m (sorry but no yachts).
Benefits include :-·Usable 12 months. Mooring hardware supplied & maintained by BAC to same high standard as Cowes Harbour Commission.
Within Bembridge harbour and protected from open sea conditions.
Rapid access to open water with productive marks within a reasonable distance.
Choice of marks in sheltered Solent or out past Bembridge Ledge buoy.
Secure compound with electric hoist for your tender.
Winter maintenance facilities at preferential rates.
Use of clubhouse facilities including pool table & hot drinks.
Regular newsletters & website.
Mutual assistance from fellow members.
Large array of trophies to be won each season. ============================================================================================== The club wishes to remind members that, as a result of a proposition put to the 2009 AGM which was approved by the membership, accumulated years of continuous renting of a club mooring ceased to be the sole criteria for allocating an upgraded mooring to an existing renter. The exact wording within the moorings rules under the heading “Allocation” is:- “...........moorings are allocated to members by the Moorings Officer in accordance with a set of guidelines that are applied at the discretion of the Moorings Officer. These are as follows but are not in any order of precedence. A) Suitability of boat (eg boat is not too long for the space available). B) Years of continuous membership, C) Years of continuous holding of a mooring, D) Contribution/Participation in club affairs.” That section concludes with “The concept of having a particular mooring for an extended period of years should not be taken for granted.”
=======================================================================
Mooring holders are recommended to read and observe the recommendations contained in:-
https://www.gov.uk/owning-a-boat/safety-at-sea
=======================================================================
The requirement to have valid insurance for your boat whilst on one of our moorings is a requirement set out in the BAC moorings rules as well as being a condition imposed on the club as a result of the harbour company leasing to us all the moorings that we occupy.
The content of https://www.gov.uk/owning-a-boat/insurance which states that insurance for leisure craft is not required by national legislation is overridden by the above.
=======================================================================
We would welcome applications from non-boat owning anglers wishing to become members. From 1st Nov 2021, lady membership is free but still needing to pay £2 if wishing to enter annual specimen sweep. Application forms available via the downloads section.
You can apply for club membership or to rent a mooring once you have become a member by downloading the appropriate form from our downloads section below or obtain a hard copy from the clubhouse. Note that the form for applying for a new mooring is not the same one as that used to renew an existing mooring. You can also refer to our rules regarding the use of our moorings and also general fishing rules and minimum sizes, plus record fish lists for both club and IW , our current competition list and more by downloading the appropriate files from the downloads section below. SIFCA code of practice re netting round piers added.
19-2-23:- .to be added
As Publicity Officer, I am constrained by a directive from the committee to not publicise individual catches except as part of reporting competition results or in the case of Island or National records. This is primarily to avoid the chance of commercial fishermen exploiting the information for their own gain to the detriment of club members.
We have stopped submitting reports of competitions to the IW County press.

HEALTH & SAFETY NOTICE
Boat angling is a hazardous activity. Individuals must accept that, by engaging in active water sports such as boat angling, their physical safety may be endangered.
Sea angling currently accounts for the second highest mortality rate among sea users.
Anyone intending to participate in, or become involved with, boat angling organised by BAC – either as a skipper, crew or otherwise – does so at their own risk and such individuals must recognise the actual and potential risks associated with their involvement, including drowning, hypothermia and other physical injuries resulting from, for instance, falling overboard, penetrating or impact wounds from knives, hooks and weights as well as being bitten by fish.
Participants must acknowledge that it is up to them personally to assess whether any event or activity on the water is too difficult for them or their crew.
Individuals must acknowledge that the safety of their boat and her entire management including insurance is solely their responsibility, and they ensure they are satisfied that the boat and the crew are adequate to face the conditions that may arise in the course of a competition/event.
Entrants into the event must acknowledge that it is solely their responsibility to decide whether or not to start, or to continue, in any competition.
Individuals on signing on to the competition must agree :-
(i) to be bound by the conditions of the Competition Rules of the BAC
(ii) to accept the decisions of the BAC committee and officials nominated by it
(iii) to save harmless and keep indemnified:-
a. BAC & their sponsors and the Angling Trust and their respective officials, servants and agents
b. the other boat owners, drivers & crew engaged in the competition against all actions, claims, costs, expenses and demands in respect of loss of, or damage to, the entrant’s property or the property of his/her drivers & crew whether or not such loss or damage may have been contributed to or occasioned by the negligence of the said persons or bodies, their officials, servants, representatives or agents.
In addition, all persons entering onto the club premises (compound and club house on North Quay) should be aware of the areas round the quay that have no safety railings and thus pose a safety hazard with respect to the possibility of falling over the edge.
Extreme caution should be exercised in these areas and on no account are unsupervised children to be allowed to roam freely in the compound.
Bembridge Angling Club is committed to preserving our members' continued enjoyment of targeting large sharks, on a catch and release only basis, by using appropriate tackle and techniques. To that end, we have produced an extensive voluntary code of practice / guide document which can be downloaded from our downloads section on this page. We are concerned that inexperienced anglers should not target large sharks unless in conformance with our voluntary CoP.
We are affiliated to the Angling Trust
Membership No 31618
We encourage responsible disposal of all litter
